Truly IMPRESSIVE!
Nice, Lynn. Looks like you've done some redecorating since your DVD was shot :tu
:rock::bow:rock:
Guys, your dens are awesome!
Now I have a bathroom to myself....
Lynn, that den is so good it is, dare I say, obscene:rofl2: How on earth do you choose razor, brush & soap when faced with such profusion?
i ran across this thread and thought i would show my humble shave den. nothing as great as lynn's, but it is a good start, if i can get the wife to move to the other bathroom i will have it made:D

That is very very nice indeed, although I'm sure that that can't be all the shaving gear you own, there must be a box hidden away somewhere where SWMBO can't find it. Are those Old Spice shaving mugs I see on your shelf?
yes they are all old spice mugs..plus i have a couple more.. i make my own shave soap so i need a lot of the mugs. one for each scent..and yes i do have about 15 more straights. these are my favorites..the one in the box is a dovo perlex..the first one on the stand(those are pocketwatch holders/stands) is a karbono steel(droescher), second one is a quick-n-easy(droescher), third one one is a shuddig(same as the karbono) the last one is a gold dollar. all the ones on the stands are honed by me. the dovo perlex was honed by lynn abrams..
:) All that hardware and only one face. :)
omg, one of Glen's soap dishes is really USED?
that ruins what I actually wanted to post.
Looks like you have a thing for bay rum
wow that is pure madness! if i walked in there i wouldnt have the slightest idea where i would want to start....i would be stuck in there for atleast a half hour scratching my head trying to figure out which brush bowl and soap/cream and what razor to use that day on top of having a good 30 min shave..... that for sure is very impresive there lyn
and the black walnut shelf looks amazing
I haven't been here for a while.... I remember why, you guys make me want to spend money - These pics are fantastic!
Thanks for sharing. Very nice setup. We just moved so I am looking to fix up our 2nd smaller bathroom with something similar.
All I have to say is...... I AM IN TROUBLE. It is apparently too easy to develop OCD with this little "hobby".
what a great setup.. i'm envious... wish I had the talent and the place... very nice work on all pieces... you are very talented... thanks for posting this... I realize it is an old post... but I just found it...wow... I just may be able to modify one from lowes! tnx glen Maq
Lynn,
Been a member since nov o9... I have been fighting health issues and haven't been as active at this hobby and collecting as I wanted but I have enjoyed every minute...
I first read everything... then bought your DVD... I have encouraged 2 other friends into straight razor shaving from encouraging them to buy your DVD... Now we all have this in common and it keeps us closer together..
I trully have never met a nicer bunch of great people then those I have met here on the sight.. You have this organized so well and everyone and I mean everyone has been helpful and generous with their time.
I love your "Straight Razor Place" the version I get to enjoy and your private "straight razor pace" at home... gives me lots of ideas and helpful hints... recognize it from the DVD too!
Have a great day and thanks for all that you do... I'll be sending you some razors to sharpen soon... Now that the contest is done I'll have some time to devote to getting some other razors ready that need way less TLC then the razor I chose to restore... should have picked an easier one I guess!!
Thanks again and always..
Maq
PS... I will want to start learning to hone soon.... I will buy my hones from SRD... do you have time for a recomendation!! I have been looking at the Naniwa japaneese stones... but are the Shapleigh better?
tnx Maq
[QUOTE=Garry;155572]I soooo wish we had Walmart in the uK those soap dishes are amazing ..
:(
Well you have the Walmart UK chain ASDA but here in Ireland.........Nothing, thanks for the Internet otherwise " ", yep nothing:boohoo:
My humble den. Not much, but it gets the job done.
Here's my shave cave.
Hey Guys... just a quick heads up about the soap bowls that Glen posted in the OP. I finally picked one up yesterday, and it really is great. Mine cost about $2, and it fits a large puck perfectly. It looks better, is more durable, feels great in the hand, and is priced right. If you need a soap bowl, you should seriously consider picking one of these up.
Paul I tell ya I haven't found better yet, I have about 25 of them, and just love them...
They sit perfect in yer hand, they hold the lg soap pucks, they are easy to use the double boiler method to melt in soaps and they stay covered...
I have dropped a couple too and haven't broken one YET !!!! (knocks on wood)
I'm up to 4 or 5 of them atm. I bought 2 about a week ago and the cashier said something about them making nice candy bowls. I told her what I used them for and she asked if I shaved with a brush and mug (I told her that I used them for my shaving soap), and I said "yes, I even go so far as to shave with a straight razor". She and the customer ahead of me, who was still re-loading her cart, both looked at me to see if I was serious. When they saw that I was, the customer ahead of me asked "Do you ever cut yourself?", when I said "occasionally" she replied "I'm impressed".
I'm planning on building a shelving unit for the main bathroom since that's where I'm currently having to shave (Wife works nights).
But she just moved some of her stuff (thinks I don't need to make something - I guess) but I'm still building.
Here's the 2 Red Gum boards I got from my Father for $13.00 (that's all he had paid about a decade ago).
http://i558.photobucket.com/albums/s...y/100_1873.jpg
It will be a 2 shelf unit. Top shelf 3 foot long, 7 inches wide, 3 1/2 inch radius on the two front corners.
Bottom shelf will be 2 foot by 5 1/2 inchs with radiused front corners to allow the shelf to overlap the support rails on the sides.
Sides will start at 6 inches wide, reduce to 3 inches to "tuck" behind the wrap of the lower shelf and will have 2 3/4 inch holes 1/4 inch deep at 4 3/4 inch center to center (5 bowl holders).
Below the bottom shelf will be a chrome towel rod.
At least these are the plans.
Here's where the stuff currently is. Shelves set into the wall next to the bathroom sink.

More pics when the shelves are finished.

that is an awsome wash basin I have wanted one for years but I never fine them in good shape or something is missing or they aren't in my price range
We looked for years until running across this one when we met for lunch at a local antique place that also has a "Secret Garden Tea Room".
Zacsdaddy
Zacsdaddy, can't wait to see the final product! I also love that washbasin. Dad has a washstand that I have my eyes on.
I've updated a little. My shave den has grown into 2 cabinets of things I use and 2 shelves and the upper portion of an antique dresser. My razors aren't shown, they live on top of the dresser in a antique barbers box.

My aftershaves and surplus shaving soaps. The Burma Shave mug holds my mustache wax, brush, comb and scissors. On top is hair care products, and a/s that won't fit inside. The Murrays wax isn't for my hair, it's for my mustache.]

Shaving soaps, brushes and creams. The left drawer holds samples and the right drawer holds tubes of shave cream (Kiss My Face, Proraso, Toms, C&E) In the glass containers are Ogallala Bay Rum, Cavendish Black, Mitchells Wool Fat (Thanks Lee!) and a no-name soap from the local Barber Supply. The brushes are from left to right: Ever Ready pure badger, Shavemac best badger and a no name silvertip.
Here's the boards rough cut.
I have GOT to do something with that left-over piece on the left.

Glen, I like those sugar dishes... I'm going to have to go find a few, yes I am...
How well would you say that a standard soap Puck (say TOBS Sandalwood) would fit it without melting? (I ask because the TOBS already has a rounded/half-sphere shape, and I am terrible at the double boiler.. I could just grate it, but how well does the dome of the TOBS or other soaps like it fit in?)
Thanks!
Fits just fine.

Here of some shots of my shave "den" at my new apartment. I hate the tiny sink, but I make do.
The pink toothbrush and the massive thing of lotion belong to the gf...
Holli, hoW come you have a light switch in the middle of your mirror? I'd never seen that before! Cool. :)
Here's the finished product. My new shave den shelf.

And finally, Mama's stuff back where it belongs.

Not too bad for $13.00 worth of lumber and a few evenings work.

Looks nice Zacsdaddy.
How did you finish the wood?
Zacsdaddyis that Cedar?
Finished with one coat of polycrylic then buffed with 2000 grit emery.
The wood is Red Gum or Eucalyptus camaldulensis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
