    i dont see why you couldnt just load up the brush in the jar then proceed to lather in separate bowl or directly on face.

    Fair question!
    For hard and medium hard soaps:
    I just put a layer of water on the soap before I shower and then dip the brush onto the dampened soap and make lather in my other hand, a shallow dish, or on my face.
    The water just softens the surface of the soap so the brush may more easily pick up some soap.
