    Question:

If you guys could design your dream box, what would it look like? I may be able to come up with something for a very fair price. It might take a little while, considering how CRAZY BUSY I am with work/school/wife & baby/moving into new house.

EDIT: I just noticed Chady's post above...sorry! Not trying to take anything away from Tony. I'm sure he could come up with a better box anyway!

    @ cwrighta70

It was just something TM mentioned over on B&B in a similar post I had made. He said it would be somewhat like what barbers used in times past. But it was a prototype they were working on to see if it would be feasible from a commercial standpoint. So might not at all come into play.
I don't think he or anyone else wants less handcrafted products out there on the market, I know I don't.
So please don't, abstain from trying or at least contemplating because of that.
Your design might be what people want.

So if, with time, you make a box at one point please share pictures . Most people here I suspect have use for more than 1 box anyway.

I just wanted to add that barbers boxes seem to be ones where the razors are stored vertically. Which the window display people might not want, thats the only design I've found for them sofar anyhoo.

My dream box (actually a display case) would have the following features:

    Hang on the wall,

Have a tempered glass or plexiglas front for display,

Have a lock to keep curious hands / fingers away from the razors,

Display my razors on pegs with razors open to show off the blades,

Have a hidden compartment that is open to hold dessicant,

Play "Hail to the Chief" every time I open the door to select a new razor to use

My dream box has nothing to do with straight razors!

...Ok, I'll bring this over to "off topic"....

Well I went to some local stores yesterday and priced supplies for making a nice razor box. So far, I'm thinking the box will be made of cedar wood. The inside will be lined with either velvet, silk or satin (I thought about leather for a moment, but not too sure about that one). Built-in antique lock comes standard

    Any other ideas, guys?

Well, I know I prefer dark wood, but (correct me if I'm wrong as I know almost squat about wood-stuff) you can get some sort of material which is applied to the wood to make it darker.
Other than that, the spacers should preferably be able to hold 7 razors from 5/8 to 8/8.

Actually I don't even know for sure what colour cedar is, I've seen some stuff on google just now. And I'm not sure if its because of some treatment it gets later or because theres some very different types of that wood =)

There will definitely be room for 7 razors.

As far as the color of the wood, sure there are a number of things you can do including staining. I could also use oak/red oak instead of cedar?

I know I've always been partial to darker woods like walnut, but use what is feasible for you in prototyping and then maybe offer a variety.

I like the leather lining idea, any reason you decided against it?

I bought a narrow shelf that comes with a raised lip all-round from The Container Store. It mounts without visible support onto your wall. I used the basket weave non-slip material drawer liner material to space the razors off the bottom a bit.

They now line-up diagonally in my bathroom.
