I really enjoy my small moss scuttle, but I also use soaps and lather on my face, which is what the moss is intended for.

Thanked: 4Just got my Moss Scuttle today. Couldn't wait to see if it was up to all the hype. I have gotten pretty good results with a nice big Latte mug I was using. I warmed it first with some hot tap water, when I was ready for the lathering I put some pretty warm but not boiling water from the tea kettle in it. I was amazed. Not only was the lather hot, but it was actually hotter the second and third pass, I am sure from sitting in the bowl. I can't say how nice it felt on my face. But it was awesome! One thing, I would recommend the big one. I got the big one and it is not all that big. I can't imagine using the small one unless you had a very small brush. By the way, came very well packed. Very heavy! Highly recommended.

Thanked: 0I just ordered one of these
http://www.schwarzweisskeramik.de/enindex.html
It should be shipping in a couple days I'm guessing. I can't wait. My lather now isn't warm by the 2nd pass. If I go a 3rd its down right cold

Me too
I ordered from the same place as PHormality. It's a bit expensive if you're in the US (as I am) mainly because of the weak dollar, as the company is in Germany (I believe the proprietor posts here as Oskar).
But I've heard very good things about them and decided after some thought that paying the extra money was not a deterrent if I enjoyed the scuttle. And here in Alaska, having warm lather is serious business!
I can't wait to get mine.

Georgetown
The Gerogetown pottery scuttle seems to be a pretty good one. Plus, the exchange rate won't apply since it is made in the USA.
Where is there any info on the Super Scuttle?

Thanked: 79I have the Moss scuttle and it works excellently.
It was designed not for building lather, but as a place to put your brush between lathering directly on the face. If you haven't tried this method, you are indeed missing out. Then, put the lathered brush into the bowl on top of the scuttle and (ideally it should *just* fit) enjoy the hot lather for every subsequent pass, as well.
If you *must* lather in a bowl (but why??!!) go for the large Moss or one of the others.

So somehow I think I'm missing something about the scuttle thing. How do you guys build your lather? I've only been using a str8 for about a week now and build the lather in a little mug using some truefitt & hill creams, i have two different ones right now. . but it seems you build your lather in something then transfer it to the scuttle? Why is this, is there some superior way to building lather that I'm missing?

Thanked: 11I don't think so. But it seems that anyone who has found his way of building lather will claim that it is superior and constitutes the best solution.
Some like creams, some prefer soaps. Some like to build lather in a seperate bowl and transfer it to the scuttle, some prefer to face-lather and park the loaded brush in a restricted space in the scuttle so that it touches the walls, some prefer to make their lather in the scuttle itself.
My personal solution is to start building the lather in the scuttle and finish it on the face (for better preparation of the skin), either with a cream or with a soap. For soaps I have developed special lids. The soap is grated and pressed into the lid, which can then be stored on a fitting rest or in the scuttle.
For more information, look up the section "making lather" on my homepage:
