    Default Moss vs. Super

Well, I have tried to float my lather bowl in hot water, but it has not worked for warm lather. I have decided to give in and purchase a scuttle.

I would appreciate input from everyone on the Moss scuttle, vs. the Super scuttle

    thanks all

you've been a bunch of help!

I would've nicked myself even more by now without this forum

I have the small Moss scuttle. Works great, warm lather for up to 20 minutes, not too big, perfect for parking your brush in.

I don't build the lather in the scuttle. If that's something you want to do you'll need wither the larger size or a super scuttle.

i really like my moss scuttle. i soak it in a sink full of hot water while in the shower, drain it and fill the bottom container again with fresh hot water. i bought the large and build the lather in it. havent used the other one.

If warm lather is what you are looking for then the Moss Scuttle is the answer. Make sure you get one where the bowl size is commensurate with the size of your brush.

Alright Guys... I am going to be the minority on this one. I have a super scuttle (Thanks Lynn) and I love it to death! Don't forget, the Moss is good for keeping the lather warm but no good at making it (or so I heard). My super scuttle can hold quite a bit of lather and still swirl up some more and keep it warm for all three passes without making a mess!

as far as review, there is not much to mention other than i can build a lather in there & it holds heat very well. i ordered this back around new years and it just arrived last week. as of now, these are still being hand made but the pottery may develop a mold soon as they are getting many orders. georgetown pottery does have a website but these are not listed there yet. a gent ordered one in blue and pics of that one can be found here:

your best bet is to call georgetown directly ( 207.371.2801) and speak with lori - she has all the info you will need. mine cost $40 plus $8 for shipping.

That's a deal. I bought the large Moss, which is CDN50, and with shipping, my total came to CDN78 and change. I like the looks of the Georgetown better, too...but not enough to trade my Moss in for one. After looking at the link above showing the C&E BBB in the Georgetown, the Georgetown has a deeper bowl than the large Moss.

BTW, I have no problem making lather in my Moss. However, I had to adjust the water/cream ratio because the warmth of the scuttle tends to increase the evaporation rate a bit. YMMV.

I just got the Super, the photos do not do it justice as to how big it is, easily enough room to mix lather and keep it warm. I ordered it last week and got it this week the lady I spoke to said they have now created a mold to make them in a shorter time, mine is blue cobalt with a dark blue interior, but they can do any color or design off there website, it has a raised lip to keep lather in and some ridges in bottom of bowl and on bottom sides to assist in making lather. The bottom of it is unpainted and a little rough I don't whether that was by accident or design but I find it prevents it from sliding around on the countertop as well, not that it slides easily as it is very heavy.
It was $48 with shipping and handling shipped via UPS, note I just happened to get lucky and order mine before they did a firing if I understood the lady correctly they do plan on stocking it and putting on website but generally do a firing (baking) only 1-2 times a month for that item in which they will make several at a time I think she said they made about 10 this time which were all ordered in advance.
