Thanked: 1Just got my 24mm knot and made myself a brush. I could never justify the $150 for a silvertip so making my own was a great deal!!! Its is the best money I have spent on all of my shaving stuff....exept for my razor of course

Just a query about the finish on these brushes, do you soak the brushes, and if so, do you allow the handle to get wet? I have purchased some custom brushes recently and they all came with instructions to never allow the handles to soak. I assume this is due to the finish used, and the fact that it may not have been waterproof etc. What are you guys using to waterproof the handles, if anything?

Thanked: 1So it seem as though the DIY shave brush is the way to go. The link to get the amazing knots is fantastic and from the posts seems to be well worth it... but the lack of easily accessible brush handles seems to be the catch.
Has anyone found a place that makes custom handles pre-cut for the different sized knots? Seems like there's a niche market for that if not.
I'm putting together a kit for my soon to be 16 year old step-son (need to teach him how to shave) and as many members have recommended to me, I want to start him off with something he'll be able to keep. I want to buy a couple of the 28mm Silvertips, one for me and one for him but I need some brush handles Thoughts, tips?
Thanks!
