ok, here are the pix of the brushes as they are being finished, and the one that I wound up putting the bristles in. To fully appreciate the massive size of the brush, my clever brush holding jig is a tall size shot glass and the handle is over 4" long. I used a matte waterproofing finish (3 coats) so that the grain of the wood could be felt in the finished product. (I am not a big fan of glossy wood finishes.) I'll put a review up after I shave with it.

Review of how the bristles performed:
In short, wonderfully. The softest, most luxurious brush I've used. As I said in a previous post, the size, loft and density of these bristles rivals some of the Shavemacs I've handled. As I brushed the lather on my face, I couldn't even feel the brush touching my face, just the slick lather. It soaked up water like a sponge and stayed nice and warm as I was using it. The handle was long enough to use comfortably with my redneck scuttle (seen here: http://straightrazorpalace.com/showthread.php?t=15926 ) and fit my hand well. (duh, it was made for me )
I'll post a link to where the bristles can be found as soon as I dig it up from my old emails.

What have you found with regard to using JB Weld to seat the knot? It seems to me that maybe there is something better, especially for wood. Any comments on the subject? Should the knot seat tightly in the handle?

worked very well for me, no complaints, and i've made two of 'em thus far. dewey has the third handle and will no doubt be using the same thing.
i don't doubt that there are better adhesives, but this was the most appropriate one i had in my tool box at the time. a two-part adhesive was necessary, because there isn't air or uv down in the crevices of the brush to cure a single part compound.
as to how tightly the knot should fit, my knot was 28 mm and the closest forstner bit I could dig up was 1-1/8", which is about 25/1000 inch too big, so there was a tiny bit of slop. this actually worked in my favor, as i did not seal the inside of the bore, so the jb weld squished up the sides of the hole and sealed it once the knot was pushed in.Last edited by jockeys; 05-16-2008 at 02:01 PM.
