Thanked: 522Rooney brush
I just got a Rooney 3/2 from Vintage Blades and it has a terrible odor. Is there anything I can soak it in to get rid of this offensive odor??? Thanks in advance...Jerry

Lots of guys use borax. Here is a video of brush cleaning .
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 335The wet dog fragrance will go away after a few latherings, but it you don't want to endure the affections of the newly shorn wet badger one possibility of remediation is to take it into the shower with yourself and give it a shampoo or two. A conditioner finale and your brush should be as pure and sweet as a spring blossom.

Jerry,
I just ordered the same brush, at least I know what to expect. I guess me and the brush will be showering together...

Thanked: 522To HellRazor
Dear Hell !
I just shampooed "Hell" out of my new brush, then I did the vinegar thing, I have no Borax so I used baking soda. After that I shampooed, then rinsed and used Alberto VO5 conditioner. There is roughly a 49.3862% improvement in the smell. I will definitely continue the above treatment until there is at least a 98.5396% improvement, at which time I'll use the brush on my face.
If I was Jim at Vintage Blades, I'd try to find out what causes that unchristianlike odor. Thanks again to all for your help.... Jerry

Mine came in the mail the other day, Rooney 3/2 super silver tip from Jim at Vintage. For whatever reason mine doesn't really smell. I noticed a little when I wet it, but not really bad. I'm not sure if that's good or bad or indifferent.
One thing, it's a shave cream hog. I used twice as much as normal just to get enought for 2 or 3 passes. I hope it gets better when it breaks in. It is a great brush. It's my first silver tip badger, it's very dense and very soft. I see the appeal of these high end brushes now. I was always satisfied with my boar brush, now I'm spoiled. That's it, I don't want to hijack your thread. I have a big box of borax with lanolin, I'd be happy to send you some if you like. Let me know if you need any...Rich

Na , there's nothing you can do as a matter of fact within a week it will smell like a skunk so just send it me for disposal. I'll bury it in my backyard.
Seriously though just shampoo it or if you leave it alone it will come out by itself. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

It's not unusual for a brushes to have that smell. It goes away. My proraso (Omega) boar brush took the cake though. I couldn't get it near my face for about two weeks!

It seems like you just got one of about 50 brushes that got the Badger hair from the south end of the Badger going north. It may be a while before the smell goes away.
