Thread: Brushes. Store up or down?

I have an older boar brush where the bristles are kinda leaning to the side, so I just ordered a new badger brush.

My question is: Is it important to "hang" your brush so the bristles are hanging down, or can you just leave your brush on the counter with the bristles up?

I do not think it matters, I keep mine up and has not shown any signs of shedding.

I do both because one of my brushes doesn't fit the brush stand. As long as you shake your brush out well after rinsing it, you should be fine either way.

so long as you give the bristles a squeeze and then rub the tips on a towel (at least, thats what I do) then it makes no difference.

Store it whichever way the maker's name reads right side up.

OR

Buy a tabletop gyroscope and give it a flick every time you walk by to give the hairs an opportunity to dry in near zero G conditions.

BTW, does it come in white?

The main concern is loosening the glue that holds the knot into the handle. Water sitting on the knot and glue can cause it to loosen.

I have an old boar brush where that happened, but it was a cheap brush. I also have many vintage brushes that were stored who knows how that are just fine. I would error on the side of caution and hang it bristles down. Guess it depends on how you would feel if the knot came loose as to how you store your brush.

I think it is an asthetic thing and some stand brush combo's look good.

Which direction is the water going as it is evaporating?
