Knot depth
Hey guys,
Small issue here, I just received my A-grade silvertip, and it seems little wider than expected!
I can only sink it as deep as the base is, just enough to have the 'glue' on the base to be 1mm below the surface.
Is it OK to have it sit only that deep? It's a 20mm knot so I'm not worried that it will be super floppy or anything, I suppose it will be ok? But is this ok?
Also, prior to glueing in the knot with epoxy, do you seal the glued knot in any way? Or is it fine just as it is, some epoxy at the bottom and glue away?

Oh man, this would be very bad news, I don't have the tools available anymore to widen the hole (it is aluminium).
What would be BAD about covering the knot and not putting it any deeper? I mean it's a SMALL knot, I don't expect it to be super floppy even if I don't sink it 2cm down the handle.

Thanked: 235I've never had the problem of a hole being too shallow, but I do have a brush that I set the knot too high. The only problem it caused was that the bristles are a bit floppy. This one will have to be just for creams.

damn, not good news... I have a boar brush which I intend to use with soaps and the badger exlusively for creams, but there is nothing worse than a sloppy badger brush with cream
Would it be ok to slightly sand the sides of the knot glue base, to make it fit a little better so it can sink deeper? Or will that completely ruin the poor thing?

You see at the bottom, that yellow plastic/glue holding the hair together? That part is a little wider than expected. Is it ok to sand that a littl, or will the entire knot fall apart?
Looking forward to your tips!
Edit: It is not my knot, but just an image from the web, just to illustrate what I'm talking about

These knots come with the plastic piece flared slightly outward at the bottom.I have sanded one down enough to remove the flared part with no problems. There is a little material that can be removed before you get to the bristles.

You can also get a hand made knot that does not have any plastic in its base at all.

You can sand the sides of the knot. Per the manufacturers, the hair is held in by the glue on the bottom of the plug. If you look at the UK knots, most of them have really no glue on the side, just the bottom. Also, some of the extra hair knots are wider above the plug, This occurs as you pack more hair in the same size plug. Hope this helps a little.

Excellent, thanks Tony!
I sent you an email, truly nice service from your company. The knot arrived much faster than I expected and in top notch condition as far as I can tell :-)
Great info on the side and bottom glue bit, I'm sure it will help others as well!
