Thread: Best brush under $300

I would have one made to my own liking (material, shape, hair quality and size), a uniquely hand crafted brush which would be totally mine, a one-of-a-kind nobody else has! And I would not spend more than $100 on it and for the rest get a nice razor or two!

I'm with Seraphim on this one. I have a couple expensive brushes [Over $100 each] and my Golden Nib knot on a cheap handle is just as good and luxurious at a fraction of the cost. Im with Max on the two band! Something special about them. However, a Plisson in Natural Horn would be nice too.

Spending the money on the brush is the same as spending it on a razor. Same end result, but more fun getting there. The brush might just be my fav part of wetshaving though. So Im bias!

Thiers Issard has 26mm brush in natural horn that is supperb. I know that in Canada Fendrihan.com carries it.

Semogue silvertip brushes are fantastic in quality of bristle & workmanship AND price. But for a full on lather monster, try a couple of Semogue boars. Once broken in these puppies can hold their own against any $300.00 brush.

However, as is more often than not the case in our beloved hobby; "one mans meat is another mans poison" AKA YMMV

+1 Simpsons 2 band

I have Roney, Omega, Kent, E Jagger and Semogue but I always come back to my hands down winner - the Simpsons Chubby 2 Super. A great brush, dense but soft. Good with both cream and soap.

I'll throw my hat in the ring, I like Rooney's finest.

I have a Shavemac DO1 Silvertip with natural horn. It is a fantastic brush. Works great with both soap and cream.

For $300 you could get 2 very nice brushes:

Simpsons 2-band super grade in whatever handle style suits you (Chubby 1 and Tulip 2 are my personal favurite).

Shavemac custom shortlofted in finest. I have one and it is a fantastic brush. The finest grade (not silvertip) is very soft but also firm so it works great with both creams and soaps (I am a soap user). I purchased a custom 177 45 mm loft, 20 mm knot for $85 USD direct from Bernd at Shavemac.

West Coast Shaving has the best price on Simpsons 2-band brushes. A Tulip 2 is $150.
