I do the same as others have recomended. Before the first time I use a new brush, or new knot, I give it a good wash in warm water and shampoo (rinse and repeat) and then give it heaps of conditioner and let it sit for about ten minutes. Then I give it a good rinse and dry it. After that it's as soft as can be.
