I'm amazed at the powers of persuasion exhibited here. My wallet hates you all!

However, I'm sure my face will love you all since I haven't received one speck of bad advice from this forum. I now have a Thäter 4292 23mm on order. I think it'll be just what I'm looking for at the moment.

I have my eye on a 4125 in 24mm, a 4376 in 22mm (or maybe 23... I need to check these things out in person first) and a 4292 in 23mm

And more razors, and more strops and I'm screwed.

No problem at all. I think that whichever diameter Thater brush you get you'll be very pleased.

The problem isn't that I'm getting a certain diameter and worried... It's that I'm getting ALL those diameters... Ah well.. If you can afford it, why not :d

Your set up is a class act. Look at it: who wouldn't want to go for a nice shave?

By the way, my 24 mm. Thater brush arrived today. I can't wait to shave with it tomorrow. The menu will include Trumper's rose cream, Thiers-Issard Spartacus "Dos Festonne" and Truefitt & Hill's Spanish Leather aftershave.

Such pleasures.

I just received my Thater 4125/0 Chubby model. Here is a link to some pictures. Apologies in advance because I am not a good photographer.

This brush has a 22mm knot, an overall height of 94mm, and a (measured) ~50mm loft.

People are not kidding when they say these brushes are soft. If you like any kind of "scritch" or scratchiness in your brushes, then these brushes probably are not for you. The badger hair in this brush looks very thin, and that thinness may be the contributing factor in the softness of the brush. I am slightly worried that this won't be the overall good brush that I was desiring. It's softness makes me wonder it it will work well with soaps and will have some decent longevity. Hopefully it will load Castle Forbes from the tub easily.

The ergonomics of this brush are amazing. I have never seen a brush with such well-thought out ergonomics. The brush fits my hand perfectly. The overall fit and finish of the handle is alright. It does not seem to have the same quality of finish that my Rooney has. Some areas of the handle looked a little rougher than they maybe should have been, but this is nothing to request a return over. You can feel the lettering on the handle also. On my Rooney, the lettering felt like it was a part of the handle (very smooth) if that makes sense. I might consider coating the lettering with a couple coats of nail polish, much like what people do with Simpson brushes.

The packaging of the brush could be a lot better as well. The brush is not held down by anything in the package, and the package allows the brush to move around a lot. In this regard, I prefer the coffin style boxes that the British brush makers use. Overall, this is not a big deal.

So far I am happy with the purchase. Hopefully I will have much better luck with this brush than I did my Rooney. I can't wait to use it.

One question, does anyone have any good brush stand recommendations for this brush? I am finding that it does not fit my brush stand that supposedly should fit 22mm brushes. Thanks!

As luck would have it, I have one of those, recently arrived. I've used it, oh, three or four times and it seems to get better with each lather. I have several other brushes to compare it to and the Thater may become the daily brush. It's size is perfect for how I attempt to create lather and it's not a suds hog as larger brushes seem to behave for me.

For those of you on the fence, go for it. These are fine brushes.

Gentlemen:

I now have the Thater 22 mm. and the 24 mm. They are, indeed, fabulous brushes, from workmanship to ergonomics. They are soft, yes, but not mushy. I agree with Bruce that these brushes are neither lather hogs.

For me, they work equally well with soaps or creams. As with using any brush with soap, I soften the soap by feeding it some water, just enough to cover the soap in the mug, and then head for the shower.

Yes, I, too, recommend these brushes. I cannot say enough good things about their overall quality.
