Good brush recommendations in my price range
Hey everyone,
I have on me right now a fantastic little cheap no name boar brush I purchased from fleabay that has worked a treat over these last few months. It is the perfect face lather brush out of all the ones I have tried (and gave away as gifts). But now my curiosity has been piqued at the thought of a good badger brush. I was looking at the Simpson Chubby 1, but the price for a silvertip warps over my dollar range. The max I will pay is $130, and this place being the epicentre for shaving brush related matters, I thought I would ask. I know there are specifications for every brush, so size doesnt matter to me, but the backbone should be good with medium softness in the bristles. Anything will do really...

Zidago,
Check out the Heinrich L. Thäter Series brushes. There are also Rooney and Vulfix as well as Omega and Vie-Long brushes that are within your maximum price range. I own them all and like them very much.Last edited by jhenry; 06-10-2010 at 01:40 AM.

Thanks JHenry,
I had a look at the Thater series, and researched the Vulfix too. Most look really good. I was wondering what specific model though would be best. Thanks again though, I had forgotten about Omega and Rooney.

I highly recommend getting whichever model Thaeter catches your fancy in your price range. They are AMAZING brushes. My Vulfix was about the same price as a upper-level Thaeter, and it is a POS.

Thanked: 1I would also recommend Thater (they feel absolutely amazing!) but you'll be pushing that 130 limit. The Thater brushes are super dense and super soft.
I'm a pretty big fan of the Edwin Jagger Chatsworth Brush and it hovers around your price range.

If you want a brush with backbone and soft tips then a two band Simpsons like this is well worth considering:

Zidago,
You can't go wrong with any of the Thater brushes. I own the Thater 21 mm and love it. I think it is within your price range.
Fido's suggestion of the Simpsons Eshan isn't a bad choice either--if you have your heart set on a Simpsons. I own two Simpsons brushes--the Polo 8 and the T2 Tulip. They are regular brushes in my shaving rotation.
BTW...Simpsons is now owned by Vulfix..."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

The other option you could do is grab a knot from the Golden Nib and pick up a cheap VDH for the handle and make a badger for around 30 bucks.

Thanks for all the advice everyone, there seem to be quite a lot of choice. Unfortunately I have just discovered that all of the nicer, more expensive brushes have such an incredible shipping surcharge, some sites over $25, to where I live here in Australia. I will probably go for one of the Thater brushes for sure now.
Thanks again for helping me find what I was looking for.
