I appreciate the input, but for the sake of this thread I am pretending price does not matter. In actuality, price does matter, but I want to at least know what to shoot for. And I haven't treated myself to something pricey in quite a while, so I figure I might as well check it out.

Brent, I'm assuming you're in the USA and looking at the Thater on SRD ? If that is correct give Don a call. The # is on the webpage and he can give you the exact info on the dimensions etcetera.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Go with the clear handle
My personal preference is neither...I like the solid wood (Olive wood, Cocobolo, etc) with the nickel base. But, if you were to twist my arm hard into choosing between black and clear handle, I would go with the clear handle
Don;t agonize over this too much...regardless of which one your choose today, chances are that you'll be buying another one in the intermediate future. So, go ahead...toss the die and take a chance. It's 50:50. You will not go wrong either way.

The Thäter 28mm clear handled chubby is an absolut joy to use and behold. With Your preferences of Fat, Dense and Clear, You can't go wrong with that one.

If you look closely, the entire handle is clear. What you see as black is inside, where the base of the knot is. Looks really cool, too. I am not sure if the clear is plexi, but if it is, those usually cost more, and is well worth the extra 15-20, IMO. And if you lather in a mug, you won't need to worry so much about scratches showing as easily as in a black plastic handle.
