I have the Vulfix Superbadger model 41, and the Frank Shaving, Silvertip/Short Knot. The Vulfix has a good amount of backbone, but it's by no means stiff. I love the feel of the silvertip Frank, however, I find that it is a little stiff for my normal liking. The vulfix 41 is a great brush.

I like my brushed to feel like BBQ mops. Soak up the lather, and just a little on the sloppy side.

I find that each brush requires a different amount of water to get the lather where it needs to be. Takes some experimentation and time. I always soak my brush during my shower also. This seems to help also.
