I just finished making this brush in the shop. I figured the only place it might be appreciated, outside my house, would be here.
There were a couple of 'firsts' in its' construction for me. I never turned ivory before, in this case a Victorian billiard ball.Nor did I work with black and white ebony. I had some idea about working with ivory, and the things to avoid, but no information could be found for the wood.
Both turned just fine, and so far, without incident.
I have a picture before use, and after. Quite a difference from the boar brush I normally use.
The inspiration to make this originated from this site- Thanks!

Ivory turns fine, doesn't it? Just turned a brush handle from pre-ban ivory today.

Now thats a really unique brush, and beautiful too.

Ivory really isn't all that difficult stuff to work with. They have been carving the stuff for a very long time with primitive tools.

Very nice and creative Ed. I didn't notice this thread until just now. Guess I need to change my SRP search practices LOL.

This is a very nice design and the ivory works well with the ebony. I am looking forward to seeing your next creation. Hopefully we will have another meet this spring and you will be able to attend. I may also be able to make a NY/LI meet but no promises.

That's awesome, Ed. I love that ivory under the ebony; a very cool idea.

PS That is a SWEEEEEEEEEEEET pipe, too. I'm smoking my morta right now!

    Thanks!
Your work is fine too. Is the material you used, other than ivory, a type of acrylic?
