How do they retrieve badger hair?
How do they retrieve badger heir, or do I want to know?
I've read somewhere on this forum most is from china, but still..
I recently upgraded from boar to badger, after a few lathers the badger became much better. I think they get boar hair of slaughtered pigs, but i was just thinking, what about badger hair? Can I catch my own badger and comb it?
Ideas?

Thanked: 40hmm, I too would be interested to find out.
currently have a picture in my head of a barber using clippers to shave the badger (while it hisses, spits, claws, scratches and attacks the barber) and releasing it back into the wild untill next year lol

Thanked: 3164I can recall reading about boars hair brushes (painting type) in the 70s/80s and how the pigs were skinned and the skins just thrown in a heap and left to rot for a while. Then some unfortunate individuals had to wade through the rotting, stinking mess pulling the hair free from the skins. Apparently letting the skins 'age' for a while makes the hair come out in handfuls quite easily. I'll take their word for it...
As badgers are seen as a pest in China and are culled extensively, I suppose they do much the same thing - but I don't know if thats how they do it for sure.
I'm pretty sure the badgers don't get cosseted and pampered in Badger Beauty Parlours and they just sweep the clippings and trimmings of the floor. But again, I'm not 100% sure...
Regards,
Neil

Brush makers like us to believe badgers are killed anyway in China. Some say they are considered a pest, others say the Chinese eat them. I even read they are reared for their furs. With so many stories you're made to wonder whether they aren't just trying to soothe our consciousness.
