Thread: Brush Modification...

Anyone ever do this? I like my badger brush; but it's soft and 'splayed', that's OK, but not on soap and not for face lathering, I find. My cheap 'supermarket' boar's hair brush is better for that. I thought of this idea; 'tying' the hairs together with a rubber 'O' ring to give a tighter bundle. Am I over thinking this? I'll give it a go tomorrow morning with Proraso in a mortar bowl; and then with Windsor soap in a scuttle...

I think thats a neat and non permanent way of adjusting the loft and heft of your brush and I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work well!

The only thing I would do is take the band off after use, just so the air can circulate properly through the bristles and the brush doesn't go smelly.

This has come up before. I don't know if it was here or another site but as I recall guys do this very thing and seem to think it gives a real improvement.

Makes sense because a shorter loft will give a stiffer brush than the same bristles with a longer loft. I agree with Stu though, remove the band to let the bristles air dry properly between uses.

Actually, I didn't even end up doing it, I took it off. I was thinking just as you guys said; that is, the bristles wouldn't dry properly...
