Are you storing your brushes with the hairs pointing up, or down? If you store them standing on their base (hair pointing up) I would think the water could eventually work to loosen some of the hairs from the knot. I made a quick and dirty little brush hanger that I've been using for about 2 years out of a clothes hanger. It's not pretty, but I've not seen a single hair come out of my brush over those 2 years.

What brush is it? My Frank Shaving badger brush shed a few hairs the first week or two and now it sheds a hair once every couple weeks. My first Omega Boar brush sheds hairs like a dead monkey. 1-2 per shave (and it's stored in a brush holder). My Omega 10048 ("The Professional") hasn't shed a single hair in it's 4 months of use.

The Simpsons should have good knots. Are you getting the water super hot or using lots of pressure while lathering? The heat can degrade the glue and a lot of pressure can break hairs.

I've got a Plisson HMW that lost a few hairs every single time I used it for over a year. Using that brush at least once a week. It finally stopped shedding and if you looked at it you would never know it shed the first hair. I read somewhere , in another thread on shedding brushes, that the average brush has like 15,000 individual bristles .... don't know if that is accurate. I'm not going to count 'em but it can lose a lot before you know it ought to be replaced by the vendor.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

My Plisson also has lost a couple hairs over about 5 months. I think it's because I squeeze the water from it after I rinse it out. I hate when it happens but I'm sure I'll never notice the difference and I've since been cutting back on the pressure I use while lathering and I no longer "ring it out" when hanging it up for the night.
For reference, I use this brush every single day which is why I'm investing in the SRP brush to give it a break :-)

I think a new brush can be expected to lose a small number of hairs the first few times it's used but after that an occasional hair is all you should see.
