Shaving brush fell apart .. damn
Hi guys
Mods - If this is in the wrong area please move it and advise where I need to put it
Hoping somebody has some tips on this problem
I have copied it from my post in Down Under forum
See below :-
Shaving brush fell apart ---- damn
I think the title tells the story
The brush is an Omega Badger Shaving Brush
The materials appear to be a chrome coated plastic collar on the brush handle
some kind of aluminium or similar for the rest of the handle
and the knot of coarse has a white plastic base - about 20mm diameter, depth about 10mm
So the problem now is what glue to use to fix the problem
When it first happened I did a clean up the Silastic that held it together
Yes you read it right - Silastic
There was a considerable gap between the brush knot and its seat in the handle
The silicone went about 1/3rd of the way down the gap - about 20mm depth
I am guessing the brush knot just sort of sat there held on by Silastic
I have tried Tarzan's Grip with little success - lasted 3 days
So now I want to know what glue will work would be best to fix the problem
Any thoughts or guidance much appreciated
Bought from The Shaver Shop in Brisbane ... no endorsement from this shaver
Thanks in advance
Rick

Thanked: 14I'd imagine epoxy would be a good way of permanently fixing them in place,
however seeing as i've got no real experience when it comes to shaving brushes, I may be mistaken.

I use marine epoxy by locTite when I seat my brush knots in my custom brushes. It sets up pretty quick and I give it 24 hours before exposing it to water. I have yet to have one fall out.

yup pretty much any epoxy will do, I have used generic Ace quick set epoxy (the two part stuff in the syringe that you mix) on two brushes and have had no issues.

Thanks for your input guys
I found a good epoxy resin at an auto supplier
Loctite Epoxy Glue in the syringes type pack
Tried it out gave it 24 hours to cure
2 weeks later all is still good
Also ordered a couple of Franks Shaving brushes
Wanted some back up if the other one fell apart again
Got them yesterday and will try one today
Is this the start of BAD ...Last edited by RickyBeeroun222; 09-30-2011 at 07:12 AM.
