My two, bulb and fan, came Saturday and I was at work. Had the interminable wait until Monday morning when the PO opened and I brought them home. They are beautiful brushes. Before going to work I shaved with the fan and , what else but an SRP commemorative TI. I used DR Harris Arlington for the first go and the brush lathered up a storm with the cold tap water I shave with. As others have mentioned, the brush has the characteristic Thater backbone, in spite of the high loft, it has buttery soft tips. A great brush. I love the fan and will give the bulb a go in the morning.
Kudos to Lynn and Don for reaching out to Thater to get this project going. To Dave and Max for their prodigious efforts. Max designed the handle and what a great handle it is. I was lucky enough to try the prototype, thanks to Lynn, before it was even a sure thing that Thater would do it. I flipped over the overall brush but especially loved the handle. Fits my big mitt like it was made for it. Again, kudos to Max for all of the work involved in getting the orders separated, packed and shipped.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Good heavens man, you didn't use those beautiful brushes to dole out that cat food did you?

TBS, that area in the house seems to be the best for me to take pix of small items. I was too lazy to move the cat food.
Today I tried the bulb. Max told me I would like it better than the fan but I didn't think I would. Well ...... wrong again. The original plan was, that I would buy a fan and a bulb and whichever I liked he best I would keep. I would then sell the other to finance a Thater with a smaller knot/loft in the hopes of getting some scritch ..... similar to the old Rooney Finests. I generally like brushes with smaller knots/lofts than these two. I intuitively knew I would like the fan best .... Well, the best laid plans of mice and men ..... I lathered up using the bulb today, along with some MWF combined with some of Carrie's Bay Rum SC. The bulb is not just good, it is great. I do like it better than the fan. I'm not selling the fan or the bulb and if and when I get a Thater from SRD it won't be a fan but a bulb. I may have to develop a taste for cat food if I get back in the SBAD. Tender Liver & Chicken Feast smells mighty appealing and at fifty five cents a can .......Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Not sure if they are still available, but the semogue LE 11 2-band badgers are the closest things I've ever used to the Rooney Finests. I got a size 2 and love that one.
In regards to these Thater's, they definitely have some of the softest tips I've ever encountered. Plenty of backbone and density just right for good flow through. I would compare the knot very similar to the new Rooney Heritage XL line with those maybe being a tad denser. I love the fan, but exclusively face lather and have always preferred fan shaped knots.

Having problems getting it wet. It is still in the box, thinking of saving it for a Christmas present to myself. Damn you guys are making that hard to do.

Thanked: 4942I have a Semogue LE 11 2 band and it is so stiff that it hurts my face to use it. I have 2 Rooney Finest and so far, the Thater is without question, the closest to them only a little less scritchy as Jimmy says. I also have several Rooney Heritage brushes and the Thater has more backbone with softer tips than any of those I have used yet. They are decent brushes though. As far as fan or bulb, I have a bunch of both and personally enjoy the control of the suds from the bulbs, but that is truly just personal preference.
Have fun.

I have the fan. It is a wonderful brush, holds cold water very well...lathered with MFW + a drop of glycerine and the suds exploded. Enough for 3 passes and what was left on the brush I squeezed back into the MFW tub. The tips of the brush remind me of a girl I knew many years ago. Soft and sensious!!! Thanks to all of you who made this purchase possible for a rookie like me. AND Merry Christmas to all!!!

I used my new SRP Thater today (thanks Max!) and I really enjoyed it. I usually rotate between a Rooney Finest and a Plisson HMW and I can tell you that, while each of these brushes is a bit different, the Thater definitely belongs in the same league as the Rooney and the Plisson.
Great job Max, SRP and Thater!
