Default Need a brush for my dad

My dad has this old boar brush that looks like its gone bald, been run over by a train and pissed on by a pack of wild dogs. I decided that since he uses this brush every day, it would be a good gift for the holidays. The problem is that my parents get very upset when we spend much money on them, so I need to keep it like $65.00 or less.

Right now he uses his crappy brush with a disposable razor and regular old bath soap in a coffee mug, it makes me cringe.

I cant imagine it would be hard to improve upon what he has, but to be honest, I havent heard many people praise brushes under $100.00. The brush doesnt have to have a huge knot, I am thinking around the 23mm range would be fine, but it has to be badger. Any ideas?

    JL,

    I have a Vulfix 374 silvertip that I
    bought from classicshaving. Other
than a Burma Shave, I have nothing
    to compare it to.

I have been quite satisfied with it
    though. Works great with cream
( I build the lather on my face)
and I used it today with Trumper's
Rose soap and whipped up all
the lather I need with a few swirls
    of the brush.

You may want to go to classic's site
and check them out, along with the
other Vulfix brushes. Off the top of
my head I'm not sure of the knot size.

    JL,

Have a look at what Shave the Badger (Thomas Anthony Co.) has to offer. It will be a custom one off brush. With the quality you get, he was very affordable. I just purchased a brush from him (18mm, Silvertip, Water Buffalo Horn) for not much more than your budget. The wood handles might be a tad less expensive and within the budget. The brush I received, just plain rocks! I find the 18mm knot size perfect, and it is very densely packed.

    Just my $.02

If I remember it correctly, the lowest Matt will go on his standard line of products is about $80. You can show them the price and tell them that he made you a deal b/c you're an SRP member. But Josh, PLEASE get him a cake of Cavendish Black and say it cost you $3. On that note, I gave my stepdad a cake of Orange Patchouli b/c he did the same as your dad. My real dad's growing a beard lol.

If you're interested, I've got a couple of brushes in that range. They are the mid level grade bristle, "best" grade, which is good for both soaps and creams. I can get a list of brushes I have in that range if you're interested.

FWIW, I own one of the $35 C&E brushes and it's a perfectly good brush for the price.

The C&E brushes are made by Edwin Jagger and available at http://www.theenglishshavingcompany....ving%20Brushes
When I ordered one of the travel brushes it took about a week to arrive. I also have a $35 C&E brush. It is stiffer than the better grades of hair. All depends on how soft a brush you are looking for.

Josh we just bought a brush from Matt (shavethebadger) for my father-in-law for Christmas. He wouldn't (and couldn't 'cause of my mother-in-law ) treat himself to anything as special as Matt's brushes. I have a C&E too but it's just cool to give someone special something special, and being able to say it's handmade and one-of-a-kind. Especially your Dad.
