Thread: Semogue Boar Brushes

I have one - it's breaking in but so far it's been pretty good. At the moment - I still prefer my badger brushes but I have found new admiration for boar with the Semogue. The technique in using a boar, for me, has been somewhat elusive until very recently. Now - I get it and the performance is definitely there. I just have an easier time with badger so I don't see me converting anytime soon.

I got you now.
I wouldn't say I have barbwire, but it's pretty stiff. Good face prep should soften you up and have you ready for whatever brush you feel like...that way you can build up a small army to choose from I think you'll like the 830, enjoy!

purchased the 830 off of Amazon for around $25. I prefer this now to my omega silvertip. Works better with soaps. Really like it with Tabac. Works really well with creams and seems to hold quite a bit of lather. More than my silvertip.

Thanked: 194I can't remember which model I have but its got a clear and red handle and it is such an amazing boar brush. I usually use it when i am using soaps. I will not be going to another boar brush anytime soon.

Mephisto,
I have yet to come across a Semogue brush I did not like, boar or badger. Currently I have: 1800, 1470, Owner's Club in cherry wood, 830, and 2011 LE, 2. These are all boar and superb. The 830, once it breaks in, is exceptional. I also have the 730 HD and 2015 HD, both silver tips. What I especially like about the silver tips is that they are not as densely packed as, say, the Thater brushes. I don't think you can go wrong with any of these brush, boar and silver tip. If you want a really coarse badger brush, try Sabi, available at Shave A Buck.

Thanked: 13245I have a #1305 that I love for fast shaves and lathering on the face with soaps , especially tripled milled soaps, these brushes get better with time as they break in so make sure you give them a chance...
IMHO they do not work as well with Creams and Uberlathers as a good badger..

I purchased the VDH brush to see if I would like the feel. I am assuming they would somewhat similar. Of course, I could be wrong. Since I was content with the VDH I went for another. I had heard good things about the Semogue but wanted to check first.

Thanked: 94I find that my owners club handles creams fine. It has a slightly bigger knot and blooms a little more like a badger. IMHO they out preform my Omega 48 by leaps and bounds. Both my Semogue's face lather and bowl lather with the best of them. I find myself grabbing for them more and more and my silvertips less and less lol, but I will not get rid of those because every once in a while I enjoy the feeling of a cloud making love to my face
When I have a 2 day growth only my Semogue's will do. I love the way the scrub my face.

Thanked: 109Well let me be the exception. I just got an Owner's Club Cherry. It is a disappointment. Maybe when it breaks in I will come to tolerate it. I have lathered it in the sink bowl 6 or 8 times and on my face another 6 or 8 and in my hand a few and in a mug as well. It dries out quickly and has very little ability to hold heat or water. Seems to be solid at the base about 1/2 inch out from the handle or more. It is difficult to lather and won't hold more than 1 pass. I have a light beard but my favorite brush thus far has been an Omega Pro(I think it is a 49). I am hoping I will use the Semogue enough to consider it broken in before I pass final judgement. MMHV(my mileage has varied).
