Generally, how long is the break-in period?

Time is a reletive thing. When I have to break a new brush in(especially boar brushes) I get a puck of cheap soap, usually William's, and start lathering. Keep lathering and rinsing. You'll be able to tell when it's properly broken in.

    Mephisto,
It's hard to put a concrete number on it, especially since we're dealing with different brushes. If I were to put a general number of shaves on it — and it is really vague — I'd say about a dozen shaves or so for the brush to start coming alive. Some might not need that long. It all depends, really. The more you shave with it the better it gets.

Is there any noticeable difference between the untreated boar, and the boar treated to resemble a badger brush?

    Justin,
Not in my experience. One is bleached and the other not. Others might have noticed a difference.

Size: 42.8 KBWell I have been lathering my Semogue OC each time I pass the bath. It sits for 10 minutes or so then I rinse it and flip dry it on a towel.

It is getting much better. A reasonable guess is 50 lathers and it is showing signs of equaling my Omega. I really want to like this brush it is built very well.

It did a much better job with my shave today which was Proraso White. I just got a Valobra stick in the mail today and it makes Cool Whip in the Semogue.

They make the best boars available IMO and their badgers are great performers and values as well. I have the 1305, 1438, 1470, Semogue Owners Club, 2010LE boar, and 2011LE Bristle 1 for boars, and 2015HD, 2010LE badger, Semogue Owners Club 2-band for badgers. I also have the Caravela, which is a 50:50 mix of 2-band badger and boar, and which which may be the best brush I have.

I just got my Semogue 830 today. I can say that I already enjoy it. So I guess the brush will just keep getting better. Side note, the MWF was great too. I little bit finicky but I was able to get a decent lather out of it.

    Hello Pops,
Yes, the 620 is a beauty. Or you can go a size bigger and get the 830, which is a delight once it breaks in. I love mine. Of the two, I prefer the 830, although, as I noted, the 620 is a fine boar brush.
