Nice looking set up! Necessity is the mother of invention, and shaving, well it's the hunt to make all things shaving related! Keep us posted on how well it works! BTW, boiling water will dry out your lather.

I have an opposite set up in fact with a small silver plated mug and a ceramic insert. Trouble is the mug is slightly too deep and not wide enough hence the initial serch for a longer brush.
This new set up I'll try soon and let you know. It could be an alternative to a nice shaving mug that keeps the lather warm for the second pass etc..I'll only use hot tap water, not boiling.

It's a brilliant setup. Easy to build lather, I use Proraso cream. The lather stays hot for the second pass, fantastic. And I get to keep my favourite little Trumpers brush.

Maybe one of the reasons I like the idea so much is that the bowl looks a lot like the one I use...here's an old SOTD pic that I have in the Gallery:
