    Default Synthetic uberlather - wow

The purpose of this thread is to gather some impressions concerning the new, imitation badger synthetic brushes.

My curiosity finally got the best of me. I purchased an Omega synthetic, imitation badger brush for ~$28 online. I really did not expect it to be much better than a boar brush, but I thought the synthetic fibers may travel better than my naturals.

My first bowl lather for lack of words was --- well !

Something about these soft-tipped, but firm fibers exploded my creams into an uberlather --- dare I say it --- better than any brush that I have ever used. It easily surpassed my best badger and boar brushes in this regard. I had a bowl full of towering peaks. However, the silvertip is still my pick for face lathering comfort.

I was wondering if there have been similar experiences with the new synthetics?

I got one and, yeah, the tips are soft. It would stir, but It would not hold water, nor lather. I gave it to the wife for a makeup brush!

There is a reason Badger is considered the premium brush. Try they might they have never come up with a synthetic material that does everything badger does so well.

Was your synthetic an Omega imitation badger synthetic?

No question about it! My silver-tip badger brushes are still the favorite and have no equal overall. However, there is no way I can whip lather up as fast with any of my badgers. That is what really astonished me! I am talking at least 3X faster than a badger brush. I am still investigating the physics behind this but something about this synthetic mixes air and cream faster than anything I have ever used.

The one BIG draw back is the "splaying" of the bristles is finicky compared to a badger or boar, which naturally spay out in the circular pattern. The synthetic is stiffer, but once it is spayed and spun -- wow. If there was a competition for uberlather vs. time I would definitely leave my badger behind.

However, overall you are absolutely right! The badger reins supreme. If I had my choice then they would never be able to take my silvertips away until they can peel my dead purple hands off the handle.

It's just a matter of time until we have motorized brushes.

I can't wait until our lather's simply squirted out of an aerosol can, easy peasy - how great would that be!

    Errr...oh...wait a sec...LOL!

Haven't had the opportunity to try a synthetic brush. I might have to pick one up...

The new synthetics ( omega synthetic, the new muehle black and silvertip fibre, etc) are , by all accounts, really improving. They are already at the point that some people prefer them to badger, even. I think that it is only a matter of time before they get to the point where they outperform badger, and natural badger hair is only used for nostalga purposes.
