I had a Tweezerman for a starter and it worked okay. There are nearly unlimited choices for badger brushes and the Tweezerman will get you familiar with the type but it is a little on the floppy side and you will likely move on to something else.
    YMMV

A badger brush with backbone will cost considerably more than the Tweezerman.

I have a very nice soft tip(after a short breakin) boar brush by Omega the #0049 Pro. It is something less than $20.

It has nice backbone without being scratchy.

Is there any extra care for the difference between badger and boar hair?
    Thank you,

Same rules would apply. Supposedly (I don't know from experience), boar has a more funky smell than badger, so it may take some more work to get that funk out.

Break it in through use, IMO

IME (limited as it is) badger actually has a more pronounced odor initially. However used a few times th odor disappears. Horsehair is a great compromise and the brush I bought from ShavetoolsLLC has soft tips and lots of backbone. It was under $40. I also have an undyed horsehair brush from them which was less than half that cost that is quite stiff and works great with hard soaps.

This is really a personal preference type of question to the maximum. If you PM OBIE his extensive knowledge and experience with brushes might prove very helpful.

If you want a cheap badger with backbone get a pure badger. You can get a quality one for probably $20 or so. It may be too scratchy though. A Best badger is a good call and can be had for probably $30 -40. There are cheaper ones like the tweezerman and the VDH but they aren't as well made and may not last as long.
