Horsehair knots. Any ideas ?
I’d like to have a good horse hair shaving brush but I cannot find it in the market.Vie Long brushes are of good quality but too small for me and bestshave brushes are big but not dense as they should be.
Therefore I ordered these Chinese horsehair knots of 30mm that are quite dense.
They are both mane horsehair and tail horsehair.
Do you have any ideas regarding the handles?
What shape or material should fit them?
Are there any brush makers to send them the knot and have them make the brush for me?
Thank you.

Horsehair knots. Any ideas ?
I have been looking for big dense horse hair knots also. Where did you buy them?
The golden nib have a couple of handles that are 28mm and I think they have a 30mm, but not sure. Double O

Thanked: 2591there is plenty of custom makers just search the web and you will find them
You can also get old brushes remove the knots and install the new knots.
What you need to look for is for the handle to have room for the knot to be set at the depth you like, and ofcourse the diameter of the hole and the knot base to fit together.Last edited by mainaman; 08-30-2012 at 02:45 PM.

Thanked: 375I bought mine from PCWoodcraft, I believe they have 24mm horse hair knots. A little stinky for the first couple of uses, but it fades as you use it.
These feel very soft to me, I don't know of another supplier, if anyone knows of another source I'd certainly appreciate it too. As far as handles Etsy has a lot of brush makers, I'm sure you could get someone to custom make one for you and of course the The golden Nib for a handle is another source as was said all ready even Ebay I think you could find a handle for your knots.Last edited by Trimmy72; 08-30-2012 at 01:34 PM.

Thanked: 480I was just going to ask about this sort of thing! I am COLLECTING horse hair, from the horses mouth (so to speak) and was curious as to what people prefer in a brush, tail, or mane? Whats the differences when whipping up the lather? I have a half dozen vintage handles that I want to fill, so thats my next project.

I bought them from this manufacturer. However, he is only shelling large quantities. I insisted a lot to get only 10 pieces.
I am not interested about the golden nib, I don't like their handles, I would prefer someone who can make the handle from a blank or acrylic.

Since I am having difficulties finding custom brush makers, does anybody know where can I buy brush handles? (except the golden nib)
