Thumbs down My The Golden Nib Boar Shaving brush

I already have some Boar brushes VP,Omega,NPV and i wanted something more expensive,i expected better quality so i bough a knot and a handle from TheGoldenNib.
The knot was at 24mm,the handle was appropriate for that dimension and the colour one of my favourites.

Some "maritime use" epoxy glue and everything OK

In the first test i was disappointed but i knew that a Boar need some "grooming" time
Again and again every shaving was a disaster, the knot was absorbing the soap but it never gave back any serious lather
The only appropriate style for this brush was the "painting" style that i don't like it
In circular moves was nothing more that soap and time waist
I never expected to see that from a TGN knob,i have many knobs from this company but i never confronted any problems.

I have some more photos at

Am I the only one with problem with this kind of knot ?

Default My The Golden Nib Boar Shaving brush

How many times have you used it? I'm curious as I was looking to pick up a boar knot from TGN soon.

somtimes the breakingin time is longer than 4 or 5 times latherup.
little more patience is good thing in this one.
I have several knots of the nib the one breaking in fast, the other takes longer.
got one that took more than a month, he is now my favorite

I have one of these and it is one of my favorite boar brushes. I have made several more and everyone that has one loves them as well.

I remember it taking a bout a month for mine to break in. It looks like heck with no two hairs going the same direction but performs like a champ. Give it some more time and I will bet you will love it.

I have it some months,i have use it more than 10 shaving times (1 shaving time means 3 lather passes)
I had no problems with other marks as i said,i "break" them easily
In the photos is in the beginning, now it is more "wider"
I don't know what to do,it absorbs soap or cream much and does not give equally.

I prefer boar over badger. I have 2 omega brushes, one much bigger than the other and i've never had any issue with it absorbing the lather to the extent you are talking. I've seen this problem with cheap synthetics though...

Anyhow, there have been mentions of using sandpaper to 'break in' brushes. I tried this and found it to shorten the break in period. Simply grab some sandpaper and go to town on it with your brush. It helps the boar bristles split and break down, softening them at the tips. They still need to be used for some time to break down their backbone to a more comfortable point but when it's there.... magic!

This is how it looks today
Alone and compared to an NPV
    Need for more breaking ?

@Brooksie967: What number of sand paper 1000-1200-2000 ?
Circular moves or up and down ?
    Dry or wet ?

I used dry, and 400, 1000 should be a fine starting point. I just made a mess of it and brushed it all over like i was creating lather. I

One time for few minutes like a shaving ?
Only the top of it or a little in sideways ?
No hair loss or wear ?

I only ever did it one time. It speeds up the process but isn't a replacement for time on your face and in the lather.

Just the tips of the brush, no point in doing the sides of the bristles. I had 0 hair loss and no wear noticed at all.
