Thread: Brush cleanser: how to make, use?

I'd like to clean my brush. Should I soak it in something?

Vinegar? Boric acid?

I'd appreciate some help here.

Since it's animal hair... shampoo & conditioner?

Works for me at least.

That having been said, I'm interested to see what other concoctions people have come up with.

Another vote for shampoo and conditioner here.

Do not use vinegar or borax. Baby shampoo with a warm water rinse works for me. Good question!

I have been using the same badger brush for a year and have done nothing to it but clean it with warm tap water until it is very clean and squeeze it with my fingers to remove most of the water. I then swish it back and forth on a dry towel until it is dry and fluffy.
I have not given thought to my brush needing anything but will have to give it a conditioning treatment just to see if it would help.

How to Care for Your New Brush

General care, for Wood and Antler brushes, I use Renaissance Wax usually every 3 months, on the body of the brush..

The Knot needs to be broken in, they tend to have a wet dog smell for a few days, I eliminate the dirt and much of the smell before I use the brush on my face by following these easy steps.

1. In the sink or a bowl filled with hot water add some 20 Mule Team Borax (I add about ½ cup to the full bathroom sink) and wash out the brush, repeat..

2. Take the brush into the shower with you and Shampoo twice and use Cream Rinse once, then rinse well

I do this to every new brush I have and it seems to really help

man its bad enough people laugh at me placing all my brushes on a nice little shelf !!! i can imagine the rumor if i got caught in the shower with it ...lol ...

but anyway i like this idea you have posted and will give it a try when i get my new brushes together !!
