Nice Work! So what kind of backbone does this brush have? I had heard the black was stiffer, so I tried a TGN one and it was really floppy.

I rest my case.

Not too high. I even stacked o-rings up to try to stiffen it. As it got the least bit damp, it was a floppy mess. The hairs seemed to absorb water, not retain it?

Thanked: 2027Black badger being on the lower end of the spectrum do's absorb water as the hairs are solid.
True silvertip from the neck area of the animal is Hollow so it retains heat.

Thanked: 2284these Lee Valley knots are pretty floppy. I based the loft depth off of a Col. Conks black badger that was my first brush. I believe its just a re branded Vulfix brush. Its an excellent brush for stirring up lather on hard triple milled soaps. I find this brush, even though its floppy, to accumulate soap nicely off of a soap puck.
I'm still fairly new to this brush making game. Maybe my next order from TGN I'll get the biggest BB knot I can, and set it nice and low. I've yet to try that, and it might make for a really nice brush.Burls, Girls, and all things that Swirl....

Looking forward to seeing how you do. I like the looks of them. However, I will be sticking to the 2 bands (finest), and the grade A's . Their boar knots are great! If you get one of the black badgers, just drop that puppy in some strong Oxyclean/water before installation.
Stinky if you don't!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."

Thanked: 2284I have 2 sitting here waiting for handles. A 28mm and a 30mm. One might go as a birthday gift to a friend, the other might stay in my shave Den . Now to find some special wood!!!
