    Default A couple black Badgers.

Here's 2 black badgers I just got done. The lighter colored handle is spalted lilac and the second is crotch walnut. Both have amazing grain figuring which really pops with the gloss polyurethane finish I sprayed on. The badger knots are Lee Valley 20mm set at a 53mm loft. These are nice little brushes.

Nice work. That's an especially nice piece of walnut, and I've never seen lilac turned before. Did you harvest it yourself? I really like black badger. My two favorite brushes are a black badger, set at 46mm, and a silver tip, also at 46. Opposite ends of the softness spectrum. Go figure.

Pops cut a lilac tree down many years ago and hung onto some of the nicer sized pieces. He's used most of it up but I got a hold of some before it was all gone.

I love the spalted lilac... generally I like dark wood but you are right, those spalted woods just pop!

Two very nice pieces of wood, and just as nice looking brushes, it's hard to say which I like the most. But for my style of face lathering I would require a loft of 45mm with that 20mm knot.
