Thread: Need advice on repairing a Semogue 1305

If the knot fell out of the handle glue it back in with epoxy, or if other issues exist (was kinda confused if the knot fell out or if it's stuck but loose). You could cut the bristles off with a utility knife then drill the base of the knot out with a forstner bit - Order a new knot from TGN, epoxy it in. As it is a fairly inexpensive brush, it might be easier just to buy another one. I see it as a chance to put a badger knot in it like two band finest

Thanks. The knot fell out of the handle the first time. I picked up the handle and the knot stayed in the bowl. The knot seems to be ok but when I epoxied it back into the handle, the knot became loose and fell out again a week later. When I get a chance I'm going to grind the bottom of the knot until I hit bristles and then try to drill out the handle. If this doesn't work I'll order another brush from one of the vendors here.

Merely and opinion and not a criticism here but, Just want to help a brother out here. Amazon is good for some things but....when it comes to specialized things like Shaving goods, tobacco, pipes and guns....go to the vendors direct who specialize in said product. They'll back their product up and steer you right (most times). It's what they do. And especially here, the vendors are no bull. Lynn Abrams the Founder of this site is SRD for starters so no bull there but everyone else here is just as true. Good luck my friend. And for future reference...Semogue is a fine boar brush. The painted models have been known to chip which is characteristic of that type of coating. But.....I have a painted model that I have had now for almost half a year with no issues. I am a Semogue convert and find them to be as said before , affordable and of excellent quality regardless of aformentioned issues. ....... P.S. Assume your a piper yes ? I was a mediocre one back in the day..had a beautiful hand picked set of Military Hardies. Long story as to what happened after though. I miss'em. Also Had the CD Pipers Day(your avatar cover) Most excellent CD. Cheers

If you paid with paypal, tell them that you will open a case unless they rectify the situation. Not sure what amazon's policy is, perhaps you can open a case like you could on ebay. Heck, tell them you'll tell SRP on them!

You shouldn't have to pay for something that is defective, that's not right.

LOL!! The thought has crossed my mind. Apparently their policy is not to return any health care products that have been used for health safety reasons and the vendor that sold under Amazon follows the same.

Well, I wouldn't be returning anything, I'd be expecting a refund. Defective product, plain and simple (unless you did something crazy with your brush that you didn't tell us about). Your brush shouldn't literally come apart when using it for it's intended purpose, this isn't normal.

Returning a product would equate to you just not liking the item and, most notably, the vendor being able to resell the returned product.

A vendor isn't going to sell a defective product anyway, even if it wasn't a health product.

Why the heck should you have to pay return shipping when they sold you a bum product? You'd probably pay more in return shipping I would still go through paypal, IIRC you can request a refund or partial refund when you open a case with them. If you're going to do it, do it quick because you only have a certain amount of time to open the case after the initial purchase.

Have you tried contacting the manufacturer directly, explained your problem to them and asked for a replacement?

Yeah, paying multiple times for shipping doesn't set well with me either unless it's something I did. Running into the same problem with a Cuisinart blender, its been sent back twice and both times I had to pay for shipping both ways and its only 1 year into its 3 year warranty. The only thing we use it for is to make smoothies and I'm following the recipe out of their book.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Opinions and constructive criticisms are always welcome. Yeah, I'll be sticking with vendors from now on. I do have to admit that I do like the knot. I've used a few other manufacturer's brushes, boar and badger, and I do like this one the best. If I can't get this one back together I'll buy and try another Semogue.

Piper? Yes, for the last 15 years. Bit of a late bloomer but its been fun. I was playing with the Charleston Police Pipe and Drums up until about 2 years ago then they moved practice to days I couldn't make. I pick them up from time to time and play for family and friends and for my own enjoyment. Used to compete a lot but haven't done that in a while either. I have a set of MacMurchie bagpipes. The DM7c with engraved brass and imitation horn mountings. I'll break them out from time to time to play and as well as my Walsh shuttle pipes.

Oh how I mis the piping days. If ever I can afford it again, I'm gonna get some form of small pipes and retake some refresher lessons. I really did enjoy my Hardies (sob).
