    Default De-handle

For those that saw my thread on the Father's Day chubby, you know I set the knot too low on the first brush I made.
I hated to see a good knot go to waste so I attempted to remove it.
First I turned down what I could as far as I could read, till the wood was like paper.
I then basically quartered the rest with a hand saw and popped it off. To my surprise the epoxy was pretty brittle and came off fairly clean. There are still remnants of some think wood on the base but I'll leave instead of pulling hairs out. That'll be down in the bore of the new brush.

Anyway thought I'd share - I didn't have high hopes, but this one seemed to work ok.

That works,Great job.If the epoxy is not overdone, you can get knots out in several ways.
What amazes me is people use way to much Epoxy to hold a knot that wgts 1/2 Oz. 2 ton Epoxy.
    Marine grade is a joke,some advocate that,WHY.
Marine grade epoxy will set up under water, has nothing to do with water resistance after it is cured,is the same as non-Marine grade.
I have never set a knot under water.
I have set many hundreds of Knots,to my Knowledge, non have fallen out.

Very cool, and smart thinking. Are you going to turn it the same as before, or a different style handle?

And I'm guessing you'll set the loft a bit higher this time.

As I recall the knot was set at 42mm?,main Prob may be in setting it higher to hide the residual glue line.
    Hope all works out.

Haha I know, you're not pulling a knot with it. I try to cover all the wood at least to seal it, but that's a lot of area so it's in there. You're right I think you'd really have to screw something up in the mix for it to come out.

Yeah don't know of the handle yet, maybe the same, but for sure a higher loft. Back to good ole 48 mm.

I was thinking about that, I'll have to do some measurements today to see what's going to show...

    Thanks guys

Maybe a good combing with a pet comb would do the trick. Might help pull some of the glue off the hairs and bring it back to its original form. Never actually done it but it might be worth a shot. I know when they use to hand tie badger knots they would comb the hair quite frequently during the process.

Never fun to break your work, but glad you could save the knot! Maybe one day I'll pick up a lathe and try my hand at brush making. Good luck on version 2.0!
