Yeah, I really love those type handles. STILL, don't put a HMW in that handle unless you can do it yourself. I like that handle.
Lots of how-to's on removing knots and replacing here. Our pool of brushmakers here can get you a sweet custom handle for less than you think. How you want it loaded is your choice. In reality, a brush is a brush. Some are nicer than others. Some like pricy, some like vintage, some are sentimental. Badger, boar, horse, I use them all. All have their merits and all are still..... brushes!
Sneak in and slather it with your daughter's conditioner!

I do use my ToBS Sandalwood (I'm everything ToBS S these days) shampoo to prep & maintain but I never thought of finishing with some of the wife's conditioner. With like brushes, one old used and one new un-used I tried shampoo w/no conditioner and then shampoo w/conditioner and there is a difference after just one time. TRIP!! (means good stuff!!)

    Thanking you.

Note to self; petition ToBS to create sandalwood conditioner.

For a follow up, after playing Capt. Cautious too excess I was able to remove knot and clean up the handle in a couple of hours better than I ever thought. The knot opening is 22mm and it looks like I have a few mm leeway for some loft adjustment. Do I dare purchase a 22mm knot? I can enlarge the opening a little if needed or should I purchase a 20mm knot?

Do Not know what to tell you JM,A TGN 22mm finest measures 21mm at the plug but you also need to get the hair into the handle.
The hair above the same Knot is just shy of 23mm.
    If me I would use a 20.

Thanks pixelfixed. It is so helpful with hints of what to look for.

    I see a Model: 20HMW Measures:
    Base 20mm
    Loft 65mm
    Tuff 22mm

I'm going to try the above knot. There was about a 1mm band of glues around the base of the old knot and around 4mm of glue under the base so I should have some fudge room.

[edit1 knot is on the way]

Should serve you well with a 50mm loft,JMO or less.

Seems it will need more depth to the hole on that to set it low enough. Just like most vintage handles!
I would get it deeper, if needed, enlarge the hole to 23mm or so! Go with 22 mm. 20 is too small to me. 22 and 24, just right!

I have the 24mm HMW and it's set at 50mm. I think its the perfect loft for that knot size. If anything, 48mm would have been my second choice, definitely not any higher than 50mm. But, as most things in the wet shaving world, loft is a very personal thing.
