Default crack repair old simpsons butterscotch handle

I have an old simpsons butterscotch handle with a long crack in it. Mixed up some epoxy from a twin tube dispenser, filled the crack and hose clamped it together. 12 hours later when I released the hose clamp the crack popped open again. So the question is how do you repair such a crack or do you just bin the handle?

We need pixelfixed's expertise on this one I think.

Just a thought. Sometimes repairing the crack is harder than filling it and letting it be a crack, but full of something. I have filled cracks with both clear and black. I've done it to knot hole and other imperfections too. It allows the flaw to be there and visible as a flaw but seals it so it doesn't fill up with crud or water. In my case it was wood projects, tables, doors and cabinets. Sometimes it is letting antiques look like antiques and still be functional. Other times it's just making use of old stuff but making it functional. It also sounds like the glue either did not set or broke free on one side or the other.

The key to gluing anything, is it has to be uber clean, think of all the soap residue that is in that crack.
A small ultrasonic with some dawn detergent may do the trick, most of the time not.

The crack is deep and long ?
Is shallow in the surface only ?
A photo will help us a lot.

Sorry I forgot to add the result of the second attempt at repair to the thread. The crack was through and through right to the bottom of the hole. I say was because I took Pixie's advice and re cleaned the handle, epoxied and pipe clamped it. Let it side 24 hours before removing the pipe clamp. So far it is holding well but only time will tell.

I was thinking a clear PVC cement might work. But that might get messy.

Sounds like you might have it licked anyways Bob.

Might have that solved but tell you what, the butter scotch colour is only skin deep once you get sanding. Live and learn, eh.
