Thanked: 2284Two new silvertip Brushes.
I spend a lot of time on wood-database.com reading about woods and their different properties. Some are very interesting, and a lot I've never heard of before. I was on there the other day and stumbled upon an article called the top ten best woods you've never heard of.

Some I have used but most I have not. A few of them really caught my attention and I will be, most definitely acquiring some. The first one on my list was Chakte Viga. To Ebay I went, and found a supplier right here in Ontario that carries it and a few others.

So last night I hopped on my lathe, just to get under the wax of the Chakte Viga, and see what all the fuss was about. One thing lead to another and I had 2 brushes done. Chakte Viga is kind of a weird wood. It turned great, but when it came time to sanding, weird things happened. Every single grit (started at 120 like I always do) the wood clogged up the paper. I mean badly!
So enough blabbing about the wood. Here's the two brushes I made.
The longer, Yellow/orange one, is the Chakte Viga. It's sporting a Virginia Seng 23.5mm silvertip badger knot, set to a loft of 50mm. It has a certain Chatoyance when tilted in the light that is just amazing.
The second brush is Bacote and real Lignum Vitae, and obviously a clone of a Simpson chubby. Again, it has the same knot, set at 50mm as well. Both brushes have a high gloss CA finish.
I must add that this was my first time using Vitginia Sheng knots from ebay, and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the knots. If you guys are looking for a cheaper ST badger knot, I wouldn't hesitate to try these. Heres the link to the ones I bought.
