After watching I'm humbled by how little I know or how much more I need in the way of lathe tools.
A 4 jaw chuck with expanding Jaws is at the top of this list.
Great Video, thanks for posting.

Thanked: 2284I went through a lot of different gizmos to arrive at this. Unfortunatly, the smallest diameter hole I can do is 24mm with that chuck. Anything else, I have to do differently with the other gizmos I have. That being said, smaller than 24mm isn't a real popular thing, except me. I'm really digging 20/22mm brushes these days but that's only cause I sport a beard and find it easier to use on the tiny spots I do shave.
I really do love this Oneway Talon chuck though. Turned a 14" maple salad bowl with it and it just hangs on so well. What I'm trying to say is, it's very useful for other turnings besides shave brush handles.
Also, notice that there was no waste from the original block I started with, other than shavings of course.

I just went and got a talon Chuck.
Makes things much easier.
Only bad thing is if you need to make a smaller hole for the knot.
Then it's back to the bolt that's tapped and threaded in.
Thanks for the inspiration!

Andrew, that is excellent. I know I've been threatening to get my lathe over here for so long now. All my friends with pickup trucks have moved away or are always busy. I'll get it here soon & I already know I need a chuck or two for it. I've made 2 brushes in the past using a drill press & forstner bits but they tend to walk sometimes so I decided to wait on making anymore brushes until I get my lathe here. It will be so much more accurate. I'll be able to do more than make some brushes too. It is an older lathe & been so long since I have used it but I still remember how to gear it faster or slower. Watching your video just gave me more incentive to try & get it over here from my mothers house. I actually was thinking of it the other day & went out in the garage & made room for it.
Super video!!!Last edited by engine46; 05-09-2016 at 12:26 AM.

Thanked: 2284My next vid I do is with minimal tools and just a basic face plate and wood screws, for those who don't have the fancy, expensive chucks. I have a few projects to get out of the way, selling my house and moving too so might be a little bit but I'll get it posted come hell or high water!
