    Default Elk v Elk SilkSmoke

    My newest adventure

Elk Antler Handle that I was trying to decide on what to use for a base (antler MUST be sealed)
Been sitting on the bench for a month or so
I was out there yesterday working on a razor and I saw an Elk leg bone that I had processed years ago
I cleaned off the shop gunk and the idea was hatched
After the Epoxy dried I cut and fit the bone to the Antler
Sanding and polishing brought out an almost Ivory like finish

My friend Dan had sent me a few Synthetic knots to mess with, and I saved the best for this handle
    24mm SilkSmoke knot

Didn't notice until after, the Bone Base has a deep 3D effect that looks like Clouds in the light
I tried to catch the effect...

Looks great Glenn! All it needs is some scrimshaw to really set if off! (I'll keep that idea in the back of my mind for future use some day)

Yours is beautiful. How do you seal the antler? I actually was gonna make a topic about switching out a brush handle for antler when I saw your post. Any tips for a rookie brush guy?

Looks good Glen. I do like antler brushes, and nice dark colour on that one.

Epoxy in the Knot cup and the same with attaching the base, this seals the core

I use Renaissance Wax for the body once everything is dry, but really it is the core that must be protected...
