Thanked: 20Reproducing a Chubby
What is the best way to reproduce the characteristics of a Simpson's Chubby (if at all possible)? Is it just a matter of taking a large diameter knot and setting it very low in the handle to compress the hairs? Also, could anyone reccommend a Golden Nib knot that would fit the bill?
Thanks a lot-

Well, you all know what a Chubby looks like so you first need a handle that's wide and low. That's the easy part since you're going to make it. The harder part is getting the right hair. Chubby's are known for the really dense fill. My Chubby has almost a 60mm loft so that's not the problem. Since the loft is high and the handle low and squat you have to set it way down.
Really like any other brush except for the hair if you want a real repro. If you just want something that just looks the part then it's easy.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Thanked: 2284This was a great post Joegags. I've also been looking to do this. I hope when you get around to making yours, you'll post pics of the brush.

Thanked: 20Thanks to everyone so far for the info. Can anyone reccommend a Golden Nib knot? Also, any suggestions as to how low to set the knot, or do you just keep drilling and checking until you like how it feels.
My biggest problem is that I haven't even seen a chubby in real life, only pictures!
Thanks again
