I've wondered about this stuff, as I powder the lower region with Gold Bond. I have had jock itch before and found out the hard way that corn starch actually feeds the bacteria, talc doesn't. Most of our locomotive seats are vinyl, like my bike & the heat really can leave you with a damp/wet tail-end. Do you have experience with Monkeybutt vs. Gold bond?

I don't have experience with Gold Bond but Anti Monkey Butt works great for me.

i was in ace hardware a while ago and saw the monkey butt. i work in a hot environment and dislike the chafing intensely, so i brought some up to the register, where a young teenage girl was working. now, i'm always writing a movie about my life in my head, so i said to her, in the movie this is where you have to pick up the phone and make the page, Can someone in hardware get me a price on the monkey butt powder?
the stuff worked as advertised. i have an issue with the smells that are incorporated into products, especially gold bond. going commando seems to work. eta...one can always apply a light schmear of zinc oxide in anticipation of irritation. i figure if it works for diaper rash.....

Hey Shooter! I take it by your post that you work on the RR? I used to be a 'Hoghead' for the Southern Pacific back in the 70's -80's. Worked the Colton to Yuma run hauling freight across the desert... and also the Tehachapi Loop run on the UP. So...I know all about 'Monkey Butt'! LOL!

Back in those days...the old 'Steam' guys told me as a young fireman that wearing loose fitting overalls 'commando' was the way to go. Plenty of 'draft' available that way. That always worked for me...that and occasionally a little zinc oxide.

I watched a documentary this summer called Mansome, which explored contemporary male grooming. One of the people featured was a guy developing a powder for the front side.

It's called Balla...yeah, I know it's lame. The description says it protects against the dreaded batwing... Good stuff, and smells good. There is a spray they sell called "drygoods", but man that stuff goes on cooooold!

Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

    Here you go:

Gold Bond Ingredients (all kinds of stuff):
Talc, Menthol, Zinc Oxide, Acacia, Eucalyptol, Salicylic Acid, Thymol

    Anti Monkey Butt Ingredients:
    Talc, Calamine Powder, Fragrance

Key ingredient to both is the talc, which is good as us men don't need to be powdering the boys with baby powder as the starch just feeds the bacteria. If you have or have had jock itch, you know that this is a bad thing like gasoline on a fire.

From Wikipedia: Calamine is either a mixture of zinc oxide (ZnO) with about 0.5% ferric oxide (Fe2O3) or a zinc carbonate compound. It is the main ingredient in calamine lotion and is used as an anti-pruritic (anti-itching agent, attributed to the presence of phenol in the formulation) to treat mild pruritic conditions such as sunburn, eczema, rashes, poison ivy, poison oak, chickenpox, and insect bites and stings. It is also used as a mild antiseptic to prevent infections that can be caused by scratching the affected area, and an astringent to dry weeping or oozing blisters and acne abscesses.

I have to say that the AMB smells better IMO & the active ingredients (besides the menthol) are about the same. I guess I will be using this a bit more, thanks for giving me the nudge!
