I quit smoking 40 years ago. Sometimes, rarely but sometimes, I still will smell a cigarette and will really want one. Fortunately my long car trips with Randy keep me loaded up with second hand smoke!
I started smoking as a teenager and continued for around 25 years.
If I recall correctly, I gave up on Old Years Eve 2004, which would now make it 11 years that I haven't smoked.
Don't miss it at all, although looking at those pipes in the "Pipe of the Day thread", I'm sometimes tempted to buy myself a pipe.
I quit back in 1992. I had to temporarily give up triggers like coffee and beer for a few months. I found that taking a short walk helped when I had an urge to have a cigarette. It took about five years for the urge to smoke disappeared.
I quit cigarette smoking about 5 years ago with the help of e-cigs for nicotine cravings i have to say I feel much better but I also smoke one or two bowls of pipe tobacco in the evening so maybe I don't exactly qualify as a quitter of the evil weed. For me pipe smoking isn't something I crave like I did a cigarette i just like it to relax wind down and enjoy good tobacco and just like Bill Clinton "I didn't inhale".
Another update...
I think today marks the three years of no cigarettes. I sometimes forget I ever smoked. I can be around people smoking and it really doesn't bother me now. There have been cigars, maybe two or three a year, but no inhaling!
If anyone is considering quitting feel free to use this thread to ask for advice. Happy Thanksgiving, gents!
I started as a teen and smoked for about 10 years. I quit the day my son was born 34 years ago, as I wanted to be around for him.
