Man, I so want to move to Eureka... if I ever find that portal to TV land, I'm there.
As for Game of Thrones, I've read all the books to date but haven't seen the series at all. I'm told I won't be disappointed, unlike my experience with "Under the Dome"... I wanted to hurl a brick through the screen and burn the cameras used for shooting that piece of garbage they call an adaption of the book. In the first 5 minutes there were so many changes (coupled with political cow-towing and social conditioning) and I was sighing and grunting at every one of them... SWMBO in all seriousness told me to shut up or leave the room. I continued watching the train wreck only because she wanted to, but they're so far off from Sai King's novel I want to puke (in case you can't tell, I'm a huge King fan, as evidenced by my current avatar)."Willpower and Dedication are good words," Roland remarked, "There's a bad one, though, that means the same thing. I don’t have television. By that I mean I mean I own a TV that my XBOX 360 is hooked up to, and I use it for gaming or watching shows through NETFLIX. If you don’t know, NETFLIX is a service that costs like $18.95 a month for unlimited streaming of movies and TV shows.
They have an extensive library, and that is how I watch most things when I do watch TV. The thing I like about NETFLIX is that it also recommends shows to you. It is divided into searchable categories that you look for what you are in the mood for by just scrolling up or down. Like Comedy, Drama, Action, Documentary, Foreign, Reality, Children’s, Animated…so you can find things way. Or you can just type into the search bar, like “Hogan’s Heroes” for example, and it will bring it up for viewing. You can also create your own viewing queue of shows. Right now mine has Supernatural, Doctor Who, Family Guy, Breaking Bad, Luther, and Sherlock.
One great thing is that it tracks what you watch, and then makes recommendations based on that. For example, if you watch “Love Boat” the next time you go to the screen it will have “Darth’s Recommendations” and may say Fantasy Island, Knight Rider, Threes Company…you get the idea. If you watch Star Trek it will recommend Battlestar Galactica, Lost in Space, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Doctor who…based on other people who watched it also watched this. It has led me to watch some really good programs, specifically BBC programs, that don’t get aired in America, like Sherlock, The IT Crowd, Black Books, and Midsomer Murders. Also, when you are watching something and shut it off, when you start it up again 5 days later it will start playing at the exact same spot you stopped. Even cooler, if you watch it on your television and turn it off, and then 2 days later you are stuck in an airport, you can pull out your IPAD or Smartphone or whatever and watch it from where you stopped at home. Pretty cool. All for less than $20 a month.
I was paying like $150 a month for AT&T U-Verse cable with high speed internets and DVR HD television. Because of the nature of my military service I am gone frequently and wasn’t ever getting the benefit of the money it cost me. I dropped down to just high speed internet for $30 a month, plus $18 for NETFLIX and I am much happier.
You can’t get brand new shows, most of them are at least a year out from when they first premiere until they reach NETFLIX but that doesn’t bother me really. And it also has tons of movies on it too. Like 75,000. Anything from Casablanca to The Avengers. I like it because it lets people tell me a show is good and then sit and watch it as much as I want or as little without having to wait on next week’s episode. I got it for my parents for Christmas, and except for NASCAR, football, and the news, they solely watch NETFLIX.
Having written this, I don’t really watch new shows. I wait to make sure they are already good and have made it to 3 or 4 seasons before I NETFLIX it. That is what I plan on doing with Arrow and Sleepy Hollow. Arrow because I hear it is actually really good, and Sleepy Hollow because it LOOKS good and I hope it makes it. I have no connection to NETFLIX, just thought I would let people know about it if you were unaware as I think it is a great service and saves me a lot of money on cable.Last edited by Darth; 09-26-2013 at 04:16 PM.

Crouton, The HBO adaptation to Game of Thrones is about as good as adaptations get. There are some changes but they don't deviate from the story. It is worth watching just to see some of the acting, the actor who plays Tyrion does an incredible job.
Also, check out the Saturday Night Live parody. It's a hoot.

Yeah, I keep hearing that the changes are pretty small and don't take away from the main points of the books. Now, if only Mr. Martin would hurry the &%^&^ up and finish the next book...

Soft minds. Then I guess you won't mind me calling people who don't watch TV lacking imagination.

If you just figure out how to read a book you would open your mind to worlds and universes of imagination. Much more vivid and enjoyable than anything you can edit for time and commercials and if you use a bookmark you can pick up from where you left off every time.
When the zombie apocalypse occurs and power stations go offline there will still be bookstv not so much.

Thanked: 1587One episode is usually enough for me, though as others have said it can depend on what category the show is in. It took me until the episode with the bear to figure Lost was not for me, for example (episode 2 or 3 I think from the first season).
My main issue with TV shows is that they just go on and on and on, season after season, usually getting weirder or stupider or both as the writers scramble to come up with plots and sub plots that both entertain and leave the option open to continue into more seasons. It would be nice to watch a show where someone just said "OK, here's the plot. It will take 3 seasons to get through it and then we stop." But I digress....
I know a lot of people now who just don't watch much tv anymore, preferring internet-based delivery like Project Free TV as the method of consuming their shows. I tend to let others wade through the weekly slog, wait for the verdict and then buy the season or whatever off the internet if I am interested.

What's a TV?
Don't have cable or internet at home. Just a smart phone. I think I read too much on this forum at home... maybe I should invest in this TV thing...

One. Often not even that. The only new series I'm following now is Vikings.
For some reason I like that one.
