Ah...the "Menopausal Penguins," perfectly at home in heavy wool all year round. I had to run home before my day's tales beat me to the beating.

    PS.
If it is cold, putting about a half tank of high test no-alcohol can make it a heck of a lot easier for your battery to start your car. Alcohol cools the charge and can make starting very iffy.
Ditto for small engines, especially the factory set "Green" ones.

Does anyone know how low the air temperature has to be to make hot water freeze in mid-air? I tried it at -3F this evening and it did not work.

I just read this evening about "frost quakes" around Toronto. Has anyone else heard of this?

The wind chill factor is at -25f. We haven't seen a negative temperature here since 1999!! I don't mind being cold but this is ridiculous!!!

I enjoy the cold. I just got out of work and my car temperature says it's -13'F, I'll take this over the 90'F heat in the summer any time.

Again that's why I love my west coast home. It's not hot here in the summer, nor cold in the winter, and have I mentioned that the fishing and hunting are awesome! I guess we can't all live here.

Well, it is not always pleasant there either at least it wasn't when we anchored off for a visit to CFS Masset many moons ago. Enough rain there to keep a duck happy.

Yes, the other night, when it was down near -30 or so, you hear this rumbling, almost like a very heavy truck drives by your house, or a sound like thunder a low bass thunder...it's quite cool when you know what to listen for. As far as sounding like an explosion, or a loud bang, I wouldn't go that far, more like what I said above, either a long, low rumbling, or like long drawn out thunder. In the pic of the article you posted, I'm located off the right, pretty much right on Lake Ontario...

Right now, we're headed down to -40 with the wind chill, wind warning and extreme cold alert been issued, hoping with this very heavy wind we don't lose power, pretty much all the big trees in my backyard are gone now or stripped down, but there are some big trees that are up a couple of doors that I'm hoping won't take out some homes or the power.

Ground is pretty frozen, so if we get some more freezing rain or snow, any moisture really, I'll know to listen for them. Other night there were dozens of them all night...was very cool!

    Hope this helps! Cheers!

Better hope your zipper doesn't freeze. That could be trouble.

A reprieve today, up to -18ºC / -1ºF. We are promised to get 0ºC /32ºF this coming weekend.
