    Default stupid cold

it was cold enough this morning (-14F or -25C) that the back door knob froze and I had to take it out in order to get it open. It's often colder than that but this was the first time I noticed a doorknob being frozen.

Yeah, that's getting down there. I remember one time, north of Fairbanks -- back in the early '70s -- it was so cold I lit a match and the flame froze.
You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

I don't know if they still have them, but when I was a kid in the mountains of North Carolina, my dad had a "Battery warmer" stuck to the side of the car battery, it had a cord attached,,you ran an extension cord to it & the battery stayed warm all night,,,,,

Yea, been stupid cold in the Great White North too, all across the country. For the past 2 weeks the Jet Stream has bent way south allowing an out fall of Arctic air to reach down as far as the northern US states. Last several mornings around here have been -38C/-36.4F, throw in the windchill factor and it is more like -51C/-59.8F. Still using cold water shaves though.

Cars in our area come standard with block heaters and even then you had better have a good battery with lots of cold cranking amps. You are asking for trouble with a 5 year old battery around here.

Unfortunately the cold weather will start to moderate some come mid January so enjoy it while you can.

I use a block heater in the tractor and the truck and the dainty cars stay in a semi-warm garage. I was not really complaining about the cold it is often colder... just have never had a house door knob freeze solid. after I got it thawed I treated it with some wd-40 for the water and white lithium grease

when it gets real cold I even keep a fire going in the garage which keeps the cars comfy warm.

someday i'll move back to NC... at least for the winters.
