Thanked: 9Russian drinking
A Ukrainian couple visited this Saturday; the guy was taken with our brandy, which is very smooth and strong (varies, can be up to ~60% normally but people make / drink even 75% - which in my opinion is best saved for rubbing massages when you're down with the cold or something)
So here's what he shared:
The Bear Has Come:
Start w/ a full beer glass. Drink half, top it with vodka. Drink half, top it with vodka. The process goes on untill you get to a full glass with vodka only. When you finish that, The Bear Has Come.
Then it's time for The Bear Has Gone:
Start with another full vodka glass. Drink half, top it with beer. Drink half of that, top it with beer again - until you get to a full glass of beer. When you finish this - The Bear Has Gone.
Then, if necessary or desired, one can continue with The Bear Has Come, etc. There have been no sightings of the bear coming twice for ANYBODY.
Cheers
Ivo
If anybody is experimenting - I'd like to hear the results... (but I think I have a pretty good idea what to expect )

Thanked: 9No kidding.
Since you bring it up - here's another bit of our conversation:
I shared that I cannot drink gin now / still because I got an alcoholic poisoning when I finished a bottle of gin by myself when I was 18 or so and since then I can't really stand it at all. To which he responded that Russians did get alcoholic poisonng 100s of times from vodka and continue drinking it. I am not sure if I believe him, to be honest - knowing how I feel about gin this sounds crazy.
Ah, and this one is true as it is confirmed by many other friends: in the morning, on the way to work there are stands that sell vodka glasses and pickles right next to the subway / bus stops. People line up and get a glass or two and a pickle to get their day started right Then they are ready to go build Socialism, work in factories, etc.
Cheers

Gin is an aromatic and a heavy one at that so you're going to be repelled by the wretched sense memory. Vodka, near as I can tell, is odourless so maybe that's the key. The Russians invented a drink you could never get sick of. Why am I not surprised.
Mostly I think they're just running from the mob these days.

Great game Ivo.. But you can never have ONLY vodka or only beer.. Let's look at it per re-fill...
1) 100% beer
2) 50% beer
3) 25%
4) 12.5%
5) 6.25%
6) 3.125%
7) 1.5625%
8) 0.78125%
Etc etc etc... So there will always be SOME beer in the mix. I guess it's about accepting a certain level of impurities (either #6 or #7) as pure vodka and not worrying about it.
I'd definitely like to try it to add to the century club, fun and games with funnels and kegs and a few card games.

Thanked: 9Ilija - correcto mundo!
It's an approximation and it works well enough for our purposes. After all, if you take math too seriously the turtle is going to beat the rabbit
