    Default HOT

Wow, I like the hot weather, but it's going to be a bit silly in Adelaide next week:

    Thurs 37
    Fri 40
    Sat 42
    Sun 43
    Mon 37
    Tues 40
    Wed 42

The lowest it'll get over those days is 19 on Thurs and Fri, and then it doesn't fall below 21, and on Sunday the minimum is forecast to be 26!

What's your extreme weather story, cold or heat?
Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

This just about sums it up for our area Arctic air lingers | The Chronicle-Journal. Yesterday morning I went for coffee downtown at 10am and it was -41C/-41.8F with the windchill. The car tires had flat spots from sitting over night and it took a few blocks to beat that out of them.

The snowbanks are higher than the roof of the car at then end of the driveway so it is like playing Russian roulette every time you back out on to the road. Icing on the cake, last week the water line to the house froze under the street. The city came and thawed the line out with a high amp charge so now I have a tap running constantly to keep it from refreezing. They dug up the whole street this last fall to put in new sewers and I suspect the water line under the new pavement is not as deep as it should be. We have had periods this cold before and never a problem in 25 years in this house before the road work last fall. They will be digging up the road again this spring to fix things. Did I mention the furnace was acting up too but we got that squared away.

Too bad we can't to a little exchange program with you Carl, a little heat for a little cold perhaps.

    Plus 40? Minus 40?

We've got it right in the centre here, at around 0 degrees.

So you are saying you are in the sub tropical zone?

-9C here in NYC. Hasn't been above freezing in over a week.

A lot of the south east USA is completely shut down from ice storms.

I'm afraid Laurens' temp of zero is a little chilly for me, and Ed's trumped me with the 47. I think the cold would be more annoying than the heat; there seems to be more ramifications of that. As long as we don't get bushfires I'll be OK.

Then again, the cold would have it's benefits; skiing, snow balls and all that. With the heat all you can do is sweat, drink beer (I guess that's a positive) and watch the garden die...

You're right, Ed did speak to someone hot, which is ill-advised. I do think cold is better than heat, because you can always heat up, but rarely cool down.

Another positive: when the garden dies, you can bury it in itself.
