Immigration with all it's possible problems is an issue but these small minorities shouting their dislikes and poorly hidden racism is another.
Even in Europe there are such groups these days but luckily they are just tiny small minorities. Might be against legal immigration today but they might attack all the possible minorities there is, be it native bilinguals, womens rights, left handers or sexual minorities, or then just against all the native people who do not share their ideas.
In Finland they are called 'true asses' and the only thing they share between each other is to be against something, no matter what.
Have no much to comment on immigration to USA but as said, the term 'illegal' is almost unknown here. Those coming to country get (or doesn't get) temporary permit to stay (= 'temporary id card'). Without it is almost impossible to live here as you cannot get job, bank account, social services or even mobile phone or rent a house or apartment.
If you find job, you are welcome to stay as long as you want, but breaking the law usually gets you out and quick. You can ask for permanent citizenship after 5 or 10 years but even then getting it ain't automatic. If you cannot find job in three months, you're out. Biggest groups immigrating to country come from Russia anf eastern Europe and they usually find job pretty soon.
These rules do not count those who get official refugee status but the amount of refugees is very small.
Also student programs are an exception too. Nowadays we seem to have a lot of students coming mostly from EU-countries but also from USA as well.
However there are differences between EU countries but in Finland immigration has been limited. Nowadays into a point where we seem to have lack of workers in certain occupations and areas.Last edited by Sailor; 02-14-2014 at 11:33 AM.

Thanked: 8I really don't know what to think but one thing that seems very sad to me is that most Americans seem to have lost their spine, meaning that people don't think they can change the way things are done anymore when that is NOT TRUE in the 1970's when gas prices shot way up many people got sick of it and parked their cars beside the gas pumps, turned it off, got out and walked away leaving their car there making it very hard for the oil companies to make a profit. after a few days of that the gas prices went back down quickly. These days when every company is saying that you are fat, ugly, sick, old, etc that you have no power, but people are a lot more powerful than they think. They just need to see it in themselves.

The card thing Sailor is talking about sounds like it may work but I doubt it would ever happen. Some how the big money needs to get out of government but that is a even bigger and daunting task. Sigh....
