I know it sounds harsh but its deserved. I watched my guy Patrick Kane skating around in circles for several games not scoring a single goal. It was pathetic. Then I look at a guy like Selanne who could be easily excused if his contribution was limited due to his age. But no, he pours his heart into it and knocks two in against the host country's team. You can usually see what team will lose a game by two things, losing board battles and getting to loose pucks. The US team did neither of those things and the inevitable defeat went right along with it. I'd love to lean on the old excuse that we don't have the quality players in the US like other countries. But we've improved greatly in our talent and we should have made life much harder on our opponents than we did. So I hope they took a lot of pictures because that's all they will have to remember this one by.

Sadly, I agree with OCD
There really is no lack of talent. Just desire. They appeared nearly as deflated as the Russian team who surprised me the most.
I felt really bad for Patrick Kane who just plain had a really bad day.
As with all things it will pass and there will be another day and another team. Maybe it was coaching or whatever but it was disappointing to see players not really giving it a sincere go.
I honestly wish they would just give up on the NHL players and go with non-professional, junior or whatever. Then you would see earnest desires to represent country possibly eliminating some conflicts that professionals bring to the table.
JMHO of course

EDIT:
I just want to say that I'm in no way bashing the Russian or American teams.
I also want to say how happy I am about Russia's opening their doors to the nations as a host.
I hope that it serves to improve international relations for all.
